Thanks to the 25 brave participants from the Kew Garden Hills Youth Center, Therapeutic Foster Care and Two Together who participated in the Generosity Brooklyn 5K Charity Run/Walk on Sunday March 29. Despite the bitter cold, they raised spirits and needed funds for their programs.
A special acknowledgement to Rabbi Ilan Ginian who was a top fundraiser at the event and his team of 15 young men from his program. In his words, “The warmth and enthusiasm took the chill out of a cold morning run!” This very enthusiastic group gained a lot of neighborhood support while training for this event. Zion G, one participant, talked about his motivation and said it best:
“Rabbi Ginian (the Center’s director) is a great mentor and counselor—really a great man who’s helped me a lot. All the staff is good. The Center is like a second home to me. I did the Run because I wanted to raise money for the Center…I like to give back. My friends at the Center ran , too, and my parents supported me.”
Abigail Claflin, one of our Two Together tutors, came out second in the Womens Group 30-39, and Danielle Jeffcoat of Therapeutic Foster Care won a third place medal in the Womens Group 20-29.
Despite the cold, it was a lot of fun. We are very grateful to the runners and all of you who supported them. We plan to do this again this coming fall in warmer weather.
