Summer is here and––with the help of some extraordinarily generous donors and volunteers––our Pleasantville residents are living it up.
Before the pandemic, AFLAC reached out to us to ask if their employees could spend a day on campus. Though Covid delayed things a bit, the idea was not forgotten and on July 6th the AFLAC team joined us for an incredibly fun day of service. We played games––Connect 4, Jenga, corn hole, Uno––and had a BBQ. After eating we headed to the baseball field for game of kickball, which got quite competitive!
The next day we received a flurry of notes and comments from both our residents and the AFLAC team about their appreciation for what JCCA does and how much they enjoyed themselves. All involved are eager to repeat the event next year. Thanks again, AFLAC!
In another act of tremendous goodwill, our youth received a gift of 15 bicycles donated by Danny’s Cycles and members of the local community. On July 12th, a team from Linking Handlebars came to campus to deliver the bikes to children in our START program. Volunteers from the Westchester Cycle Club helped each child select and custom fit their bikes and helmets, after which the kids rode around campus smiling.
We owe a debt of gratitude to Adriane Defeo from Linking Handlebars and to Volunteer NY. Thanks also to our Volunteer Coordinator Julie Kirkpatrick.
